The COM port assignments made by Bayer's USB Cable drivers might fall out of the range of the ports used by WinGLUCOFACTS, due to the manner in which Windows ® makes ports available to the driver. If this happens, WinGLUCOFACTS will be unable to use a meter connected to the assigned USB serial port. It is possible, however, to change the assignment, by following the instructions below.
- Click on the "Start" menu in the lower left corner of your Windows desktop.
- Navigate the to Menu Item for "Control Panel"

- Click on the "Control Panel" menu item to open the Control Panel, then double click the "System" applet
(you might need to scroll down in the Control Panel to see this application...)
-
Double clicking the "System" applet will bring up the "System Properties" window. Click on the "Hardware" tab:
-
From the Hardware tab, click on the "Device Manager" button...
-
After clicking on the "Device Manger" button to bring up the Device Manager window, scroll down in this
window until you locate the "Ports (COM & LPT)" item, and expand that to reveal the COM ports.
You should see one or more ports labeled "USB Serial Port (COM6)".1 Double click on the USB Serial Port item...

1Note that the actual port name/number may be different that illustrated here.
-
In the USB Serial Port Properties window, verify the Manufacturer as "Bayer Healthcare LLC".
If Bayer Healthcare LLC is not the manufacturer, go to the previous step and select a different USB Serial Port.
-
Click on the "Port Settings" tab...
-
In the Port Settings Dialog, click the "Advanced" button...
-
In the Advanced Settings window, click the Com Port Number dropdown, and locate a COM port
that is not "in use", in the range 1-4 (for legacy versions of WinGLUCOFACTS) or in the
range 1-8 for more recent versions of WinGLUCOFACTS:
-
After selecting an available port, within the proper range, click the "OK" button...
-
Click OK from the Serial Port Properties Dialog...
-
Close the Device Manger window...
-
Finally, close the System Properties window...
